What does T+2 mean?

T+2 is the normal settlement protocol for most securities. T+2 means trade date plus two days. Under normal circumstances if you sell a security, the settlement time is 2 days and you will receive the cash proceeds after the 2 days have passed. Conversely, when you buy a security, you receive it two days after you place the order.
