By now, you’ve created your account and set up your portfolio. To start investing, all you'll need to do is connect your bank and fund your account. This article will show you how to fund your account by making a deposit, but keep in mind that you can also fund your account by transferring an account from another institution or by rolling over an old 401(k) from a previous employer.
You should also keep in mind that the Auto-Invest feature is turned on for all new accounts by default; if you want your first deposit to be held as cash in your cash balance, you will need to turn Auto-Invest off before initiating your transfer.
Connect your Bank and Make A Deposit:
_______________________________________________
On mobile:
Navigate to the Bank Connection page (located under the "Invest" tab) and click the “Add bank” button. You will have the option to connect instantly or manually.
To connect instantly via PLAID, click on or search for your banking institution and input your online banking login credentials. If your bank does not appear on our list of supported banks, you will need to connect manually instead.
Connecting your bank manually will require you to input your bank's name, the bank account type, and your account and routing numbers. After clicking "submit," you'll receive micro-deposits (two small deposits) to verify your bank account within 2-3 business days.
Funding your account:
Once your bank is connected, you can initiate your first deposit by following the instructions below:
- Click the "Transfers" tab, located in the bottom-center of the app.
- Click the blue "Move Money" button at the bottom of your screen.
- Select "One-time Transfer."
- Under "From," select the bank account you want to pull funds from.
- Under "To," select the M1 account you want to deposit the funds into.
- Under "Amount," input the dollar amount you want to deposit.
- Click the "Transfer" button at the bottom of your screen, review your transfer details, and confirm the transfer if everything looks correct.
